Rae’s photographic works explore gestures enacted in dialogue with their environment to challenge our understanding of formal and corporeal relationships, while offering an alternate perspective on notions of subjectivity and presence.
Clare Rae is a founding member of LAST Collective. Her work has been created and exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne); Australian Centre for the Moving Image (Melbourne); the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (Melbourne); CCA Galleries (Jersey, UK); Centre for Contemporary Photography (Melbourne); Abbotsford Convent (Melbourne); Musée de l’Elysée Lausanne (Laussanne, Switzerland); Jarvis Dooney (Berlin, Germany); Beam Contemporary (Melbourne); Anna Pappas Gallery (Melbourne); Sutton Project Space (Melbourne); Sydney Contemporary (Sydney); Monash University (Melbourne); The Substation (Melbourne); Blindside (Melbourne); Seventh Gallery (Melbourne) and Westspace (Melbourne), among others.
Rae’s work is held in public and private collections nationally, including Artbank (Sydney); The National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne) and Monash University (Melbourne), among others.
Rae completed a Master of Arts by research in 2014 at Monash University and received first class Honours in Fine Art in 2009 at RMIT University.
